What are ChemCards?
ChemCards are study cards designed to improve the learning of organic chemistry. Building on the scientifically proven 'flashcard' method of learning, ChemCards illustrate the key elements of organic chemistry, without the excess filler information found in textbooks and other study card sets. This clarity allows students to rapidly absorb the key aspects of organic chemistry, which can then be applied throughout the course.
Why did you make ChemCards?
Almost 20 years of teaching and tutoring organic chemistry showed us that using a 'flashcard' approach was, by far, the most effective way to learn organic chemistry (people who study the process of learning agree with us!). Unfortunately, all of the flashcard sets available make the same mistake that textbooks make: they unleash a torrent of information that obscures the most important elements of organic chemistry. However, making flashcards as you go through class requires significant discipline and time. We saw an opportunity to fill this need for students, and the result was ChemCards.
Will ChemCards cover everything my professor teaches?
No, every organic chemistry class is slightly different. Chemcards covers everything that is taught in organic chemistry, but your professor will likely cover a reaction or idea that is not included in the set. We print ChemCards on 3 x 5 inch heavy stock cards, which allows you to make cards covering these unusual topics from commonly available 3 x 5 inch index cards.
How do you suggest that I use ChemCards?
Look through the cards during study sessions or even when you have a few minutes to spare and a big test coming up. For concepts or reactions that you are having trouble mastering, take those cards with you and glance at them on the bus, at the coffee shop, between classes, whenever. This repeated exposure to the topic remarkably improves your memory and understanding of the idea.

Are ChemCards really flashcards?
Not exactly, in that there is not a question on one side, with the answer on the other. Organic chemistry does not lend itself well to that kind of approach. ChemCards only have content on one side of the card. We call our cards "study cards", as each card illustrates a key concept or reaction in simple clarity. Will ChemCards help me review for the MCAT, PCAT, VCAT, etc.?
